Housecall Pro: Connect Your Account

This guide walks you through connecting your HouseCall Pro (HCP) account to AutoRev so your AI receptionist can sync customers, book jobs, and post estimates directly into HCP.

Estimated time: 5 minutes.

Why connect HouseCall Pro

  • Your AI receptionist creates real jobs in HouseCall Pro when callers book. Your office and field crew see them instantly on the HCP schedule.
  • Customer history (past jobs, addresses, contacts) auto-syncs so the AI greets repeat callers by name and pulls up their service history.
  • Estimates the AI builds during a call get posted into HCP as draft estimates your team can review and send.
  • Daily KPIs (jobs booked, revenue, average ticket) flow from HCP into your AutoRev dashboard.

Step 1: Get your HouseCall Pro API key

HouseCall Pro uses a single API key. There are no separate Client IDs or Client Secrets to manage.

  1. Log into HouseCall Pro at pro.housecallpro.com as an admin.

  2. Click your profile / company name in the top right.

  3. Go to Settings.

  4. In the left sidebar, click App Store (or My Apps depending on your version).

  5. Click API & Integrations (or look for API Key).

  6. Click Generate API Key (or Reveal API Key if one already exists).

  7. Copy the API key. It looks like a long random string starting with letters and numbers.

  8. Save it somewhere safe for the next step. HouseCall Pro will show it again later, but treat it like a password.

Step 2: Required permissions

HouseCall Pro does not have granular scope settings the way ServiceTitan does. A single API key grants access to:

  • Customers (read, create, update)
  • Jobs (read, create, update)
  • Estimates (read, create, update)
  • Invoices (read)
  • Schedule (read availability, book appointments)

This means the API key is powerful. Treat it like an admin password. Do not share it in Slack, email, or screenshots. AutoRev encrypts your key at rest and never shows it back to you in plaintext.

Step 3: A word about sandbox accounts

HouseCall Pro does not offer a sandbox or test environment. Your API key always connects to your live account with real customers, real jobs, and real invoices.

This means:

  • The first time you connect AutoRev to HCP, the test action runs against real data.
  • Our test is read-only and only fetches one of each: a customer, a job, an invoice. We do not write anything during the test.
  • Once connected, the AI receptionist will create real jobs and customers in your live HCP. There is no "preview mode."

If you want to be extra cautious on day 1, ask Claude to put your AI receptionist in review mode. Every booking the AI makes will be queued for your approval before it hits HCP. You can flip review mode off once you trust it.

Step 4: Connect to AutoRev

Once you have your HCP API key:

In the AutoRev dashboard, go to Settings > Integrations, open the card for this integration, paste your credentials, and click Connect. Credentials are validated live against the provider before anything is saved. (If you use AutoRev through the Claude connector, you can also just ask Claude to connect it for you.)

How to test the connection

After connecting, the card shows the live connection state. The connect step already validated your credentials with a real API call, so a green card means you are live.

Common issues

"Unauthorized" or "Invalid API key" error The key was copied with a leading or trailing space, or was truncated. Go back into HCP, copy the full key again, and reconnect. Tip: triple-click the key in HCP to select the whole string cleanly.

"Account not found" or "Suspended" error Your HouseCall Pro subscription is on hold, in a billing grace period, or the company has been deactivated. Check your HCP billing status. The API rejects all requests when an account is in any non-active state.

The AI created a job in HCP but it is not on the right tech's schedule By default, AutoRev creates jobs as unassigned. Your office manager assigns the tech in HCP after reviewing the booking. This is the recommended workflow, and it is what most of our live HCP customers use. If you want auto-assignment, ask Claude to enable the auto-assign-by-skill rule.

The AI says "no availability this week" but my schedule has openings HCP's availability API checks against the techs assigned to a "Schedule Availability" rule in HCP. If you have not set up Schedule Availability in HCP (Settings > Schedule > Availability), the API returns no slots. Set up at least one default availability window in HCP and the AI will see openings.

My HCP plan is the cheapest tier and the API is not working HouseCall Pro requires the MAX plan (or higher) to access the public API. The Essentials and Plus plans do not include API access. If your HCP plan does not support the API, you will see a "feature not available" error. Upgrade in HCP or talk to your account manager.
